First Women’s football weekend set for November

The announcement of the weekend, that will become an annual event, follows the tremendous start to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League attendance of more than more than 62,000 supporters attended opening-day fixtures.



The FA has announced plans for the first Women’s Football Weekend, following a record-breaking opening weekend in the 2019-20 Barclays FA Women's Super League.


“There has never been a better time to visit your local team, and we encourage all supporters to get involved at all levels of the pyramid on 16-17 November.”

Mark 16-17 November in your calendar as its set to be another landmark moment in the growing popularity of the women’s game.


The weekend has been chosen to capitalise on the opportunity to back Women’s Football at any level in the pyramid, with the men’s international weekend creating a pause in the Premier League and EFL calendars.


More than 62,000 supporters attended opening-day fixtures of in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and the momentum keeps going with an exceptional set of fixtures in store for Women's Football Weekend.


Highlights will include a north London derby, as Tottenham Hotspur take on Arsenal, Merseyside rivals Liverpool and Everton will battle it out and for the first time this season Manchester United will face Chelsea.


The FA Women’s Championship promises to be equally as exciting with an all-capital affair in the shape of London City Lionesses' match-up with Crystal Palace, with early pacesetters Durham facing London Bees. There will also be a full league and cup fixture schedule across the rest of the football pyramid.


As reported by the FA, Kelly Simmons, The FA’s director of women’s professional game said: “We are excited to announce the first ever Women’s Football Weekend, for what is sure to be another great moment in a year that has seen huge momentum behind the growth in popularity of women’s football.”
